There was not a great deal to consider when choosing this week’s selection.
With all the events that have unfolded this past month “My Anchor Holds”
Translation?
“I will never leave you nor forsake you”
What does it take to make that CLEAR !
Many years ago, H8n S8n broke the binding in the first bible I did any serious study in. Isaiah, Daniel, and Revelation were heavily marked-up. However, where I broke the binding from having been there so many times: Psalm 84:5-7.
***********************************************************
Psa 84:5-7
Blessed [is] the man whose strength [is] in thee; in whose heart [are] the ways [of them].
[Who] passing through the valley of Baca (weeping) make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools.
They go from strength to strength, [every one of them] in Zion appeareth before God.
Translation:
Blessed men go through valleys of weeping. Myself, I am still looking for that no-valley trip! No where in Gods’ word does he say everything will be Peaches n Cream + Sweetness n Light. There will be valleys, valleys of weeping. The parakletos [ Strong's 3875] in John 14 speaks of the one who will stand alongside you, and help you carry your burden, through the valley of weeping!
(As you) go from Strength to Strength.
The blessed man whose strength is in thee, will go through the valley that you are convinced you will not make it through. If you have ever had one of those, raise your hand. (Ok, all hands up?) How many of you made it through that valley – RAISE YOUR HAND. (Ok, all hands up?) Well, the next time you hit that valley? Remember Psalm 84:5, but do not forget…
My (and your) Anchor Holds !
Though the angry surges roll
On my tempest driven soul,
I am peaceful, for I know,
Wildly though the winds may blow,
I’ve an anchor safe and sure,
That can evermore endure.
Chorus
And it holds, my anchor holds:
Blow your wildest, then, O gale,
On my bark so small and frail;
By His grace I shall not fail,
For my anchor holds, my anchor holds.
Mighty tides about me sweep,
Perils lurk within the deep,
Angry clouds o’ershade the sky,
And the tempest rises high;
Still I stand the tempest’s shock,
For my anchor grips the rock.
Chorus
And it holds, my anchor holds:
Blow your wildest, then, O gale,
On my bark so small and frail;
By His grace I shall not fail,
For my anchor holds, my anchor holds.
I can feel the anchor fast
As I meet each sudden blast,
And the cable, though unseen,
Bears the heavy strain between;
Through the storm I safely ride,
Till the turning of the tide.
Chorus
And it holds, my anchor holds:
Blow your wildest, then, O gale,
On my bark so small and frail;
By His grace I shall not fail,
For my anchor holds, my anchor holds.
Troubles almost ‘whelm the soul;
Griefs like billows o’er me roll;
Tempters seek to lure astray;
Storms obscure the light of day:
But in Christ I can be bold,
I’ve an anchor that shall hold.
Chorus
And it holds, my anchor holds:
Blow your wildest, then, O gale,
On my bark so small and frail;
By His grace I shall not fail,
For my anchor holds, my anchor holds.
No good youtube videos out there for this one…

This song has been like our theme song, so to speak. Mario and I have a pretty good duet that we sing a capella (this song). It is a great hymn, one that I consider in my personal top three! Thanks H8n!
Read the following passage from Hebrews 6 to see why:
The Certainty of God’s Promise
13 For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself, 14 saying, “Surely I will bless you and multiply you.” 15 And thus Abraham, having patiently waited, obtained the promise. 16 For people swear by something greater than themselves, and in all their disputes an oath is final for confirmation. 17 So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, 18 so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.
[and now, verse nineteen]
19 We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, 20 where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.
PRAISE GOD!
Sorry…gotta do it…another Eastern Orthodox story (perhaps it will benefit someone who has a loved one astray):
When I first found out about my family’s plans to convert to Orthodoxy I grieved in a way I haven’t known before. At night I would have 2 index cards on the nightstand, 1 with Psalm 19 written out and the other with this hymn…these would be read periodically in the night by the light of the cell phone. This hymn is very precious to me…thank you for writing about it here!
O Stephen…I must hear you and Mario sometime…I simply must…
There is some good news about that Valley of Weeping.
The Good News? The blessed go THROUGH !
Amazing how this weeks entry has been like a “rifle shot” having affecting so many of us here.
Note to Reformed Mama:
So? Is this one a “printer” as well ?
Is there a pattern here?
My
“Blessed Assurance” is that
“Through It All”
“My Anchor Holds” !
In NO WAY did “I” plan it this way. It was not up to me.
Since we seem to be discussing a lot of hymns lately, can we submit nominations?
Also, do you have any favorite hymn CDs?
I volunteer to do a hymn!

Note to Agogley:
I had meant to ask for requests when I started this. I am open for that.
I have no use for the Worship they play on The Wave of Arminian Waters. What I like is on http://www.familyradio.com/. Streaming
audio, between teaching from the date-picker.
Any Favorite Hymn CD’s?
Overall, not reallly. However? Of the small handful I do have:
1. Darell Mansfield (I have a few by him I laike)
2. “Touched By An Angel” The Album (Sony)
I purchased 2 of this complation when it was released in 1998(?)
They do no re-issue these types
3. Merle Haggard “The Land of Many Churches”
I do not like every track on this live CD. However? When I throw it on the scale? The good out-weighs the not-so-good.
4. “Rage of Angels” ($50 on ebay – used only)
If you were to combine Ratt + Motley Crue & Skid Row + Stryper?
You would get this one hit wonder. It was really hard for me to reach a
place where I could stop playing this.
I volunteer to do a hymn!
Three prerequisite’s I generally look for:
1. Material from the 1800’s
Rich History + I like ‘em.
2. A history attached to the Hymn or author. At some point I may post
some “Post Modern” hyms, sans history, because there is none.
3. You Tube
This just adds “color” to what I want to project. A 10 year old could copy & post lyrics. Nothing wrong with that. My “Series” is a package.
I have well over 100 that I have already completed. They just require
some editing for the caliber of this forum.
Here is a free sample so you know “flavor” I look for: “It is No Secret”

You Tube I like for “It Is No Secret”

First:
I have a specific hymn in mind that always brings refreshment to my soul whenever I feel spiritual dryness. And actually, it was written in the 1800s and there are many, many you tube variations (including an extremely recent rendition by recently famous singer). I have the history and was modeling my write-up after the other articles here. I was going to offer the history of the author, the lyrics with some of my own commentary and appropriate verse references and then a you tube link.
I’ll be working on it over the next 7 days and get it to you and Stephen soon. You can then decide if it is printworthy or in need of additional editing.
Can’t wait brother!
Not that I’m opposed to it, but why the name change?
Agogley is somewhat impersonal (most people don’t know the meaning of it…not to mention it was never the smartest thing for me to do). I use Sir Aaron on my x-box live account as well as some other blogs, so I’m just going to make it my usual handle. Plus I figure Sir Aaron sounds more like a Crusader/Faith Defender. And finally, I love medieval history so the title has always appealed to me.
Sir Aaron it is!
H8n S8n
P.S. I enjoyed listening to Air1 while I was in California. I only listen to some form of “christian” music or some other music without lyrics (classical, etc.). Secular pop music was one thing I gave up completely when I gave my life to Christ. I wound up needing to replace it with something…music calms me and helps me concentrate.
Note to Sir Aaron:
Before I posted my reply to you, I checked Google for Air 1.
2 DEAD LINKS ! I’m pretty sure Air 1 is still on. Here in So Cal its
100.7 + 90.1 I think.
actually, it was written in the 1800s + You Tube ? Yer Inn !
When I started my work on Worship, there was not You Tube.
Sometimes I gotta weed, and I do mean weed, through 40+ !
If a selection has been a blessing to you, it is and will be a blessing to others
H8N S8N~
Are you dissing’ Brother Camping (aka “date-picker)? lol…
Sir Aaron~
Your reasons are good ones but I will miss my Agogley…=)
Thank you, Reformed…but every good squire must someday become a knight!
H8n S8n: http://www.air1.com/
It works for me. And yes, it was 100.7 and 90.1/90.3 while I was there. But they come out of Riverside, Yucaipa area. Otherwise you have to listen to the Fish, which I didn’t really care for.
I finished my article on my favorite hymn. I’m gonna let it rest for a couple days and then review it again before sending it off.
“I’m gonna let it rest for a couple days and then review it again before sending it off.”
That’s wise.
BTW, in case it hasn’t been realized by all, we only post the Worship series on Sundays.
Then I guess I better send it to you soon so you can evaluate it before Sunday.
Don’t rush it, just make it good. I already have the next two Sundays filled. This Sunday H8n S8n takes center stage, and then the Sunday after next (8/23), Glen from Guarding The Truth makes his BT debut with a Worship Series post on a very good hymn, one that is dear to my own heart and life.
I just hope they don’t use my hymn…LOL.
“Don’t rush it, just make it good.”
O Ye of little faith.
