The Calm Before the Storm

 Calm

Things have been quiet around here for the past few days.  Thank God for our BT Exclusives contributions.  The contributions from Becky and Jon have allowed for us to take a break and prepare for some theological ruckus!  I know I sure needed the break (from daily writing that is).

But this is only the calm before the storm.  Dr. Bob preached another classic on Philippians, and that just adds fuel to the Holy Spirit fire that has been raging at Faith Defenders ever since “NO MORE H. A. CHRISTIANITY!”  You had to have been there.

But the storm is coming.  Natural theologians, philosophers, Arminians, Molinists, RC’s, Eastern Orthodox, and everyone else in the way of the Gospel, get ready!  Biblical Thought Dot Com is coming to a town near you with fistfuls of Bible, prepared to destroy arguments that are void of biblical basis.

We could use a little help from you.  When our enemies read our stuff and see that the post only has two comments, it looks weak.  When they see that the article has many comments, they pee their pants.  I know for a fact that there are more than two readers, I check the stats.  We had almost 10,000 the last three weeks of November.  Encourage our authors and do your part.  See to it that each post has 40-60 comments minimum.  Leave two or three of you have to.  Have discussions amongst each other.  When Morey blogs, there should be hundreds!

Let’s crank it back up this week, and put those Bible-Displacers on their heels.  Let’s fight like we’re under attack.  After all, we are!  All victory, all glory, all honor, all praise; all things unto God our salvation!  Let’s practice leaving comments on this post.  If you have never done it, just enter your name, email address, your own url (if you have one), and type tour comment.  If you’re shy and want to remain anonymous, then instead of your real name, use a fake (like: JMG-09 or Billy the Kid).

P.S. Where it says “Website” above the comment box, it doesn’t mean this website. It is if you have your own blog or website/url.

2 5pointbaptist December 3, 2007 at 10:11 am

Well, that would be my main concern. Though I enjoy and am edified by you and others as you post your blogs, it would be nice to see Dr. Bob do some more blogging. However, regardless of WHO is doing the blogging, I find them to be the most useful when they have a lot of exegetical content. My main battle is with those who promote the false doctine of free will/synergist. I would love to see some great articles on the pagan roots of this heresy so as to be able to add that to my arsenal.

BTW, is Morey ever going to do a web cast? That would add to this blog as you would be able to respond even further to callers questions and comments.

Anyhow, keep up the good work and may God be glorified in the work that is done.

Amen!!!!

I’m there. I want this reformation, not for moral reform, but to promote the gospel according to Christ Jesus. It’s already offensive enough, it’s just not being proclaimed enough! Love the site, but also wish Morey would do more blogging himself (yeah I know, he’s busy…)

5 Mario Herrera December 3, 2007 at 4:28 pm

Amen! Thanks for the post Steve! The is constantly being sharpened by the great teaching. We are praying, asking the Lord to empower us to write to His glory, that the words being read may be those “arrows which thud into the hearts” of the readers!
5 pointer, I will keep the freewill in prayer, I like dealing in that area! Oh, and may I say, the H.A. stands for NO MORE HALF-*SS CHRISTIANITY!

6 Stephen Macasil December 3, 2007 at 4:45 pm

Morey has a killer post all ready to go, but it requires the installation of Greek and Hebrew fonts, and we’re still trying to figure that out. As soon as we can get the fonts, the post will go up. He loves the blog, and has already told us that he plans on at least one per week. He’s writing a very needed book right now on natural theology that will be about the size of his ridiculously brilliant work on the Trinity. He told me yesterday to keep on blogging, they’re like bombs, he said. Studies in the Atonement is being reissued, a new book on Eastern Orthodoxy has just been completed and is at the printer, and he is praying that the natural theology book will be done by the end of this year. He hasn’t vanished, just been busy serving his God. He’ll be blogging!

7 Reformed Mama December 3, 2007 at 4:59 pm

Bring it!!!!

8 Joel Taylor December 3, 2007 at 5:05 pm

Stephen, Just wanted you to know I’ve read ‘Studies in the Atonement’ many, many times, literally! My current copy has split apart and whole sections have to keep being pushed back in, I’m often using it as a reference. In other words, I highly recommend any re-issue, and am glad to hear it is being reprinted. But, I’m cheap (frugal? Good steward?? ha!)) I’d love to hear this book being bought and placed in the hands of every professing Christian. Personally, this book was used powerfully by the Holy Spirit in my life while I was studying Romans 6….everything I previously thought I knew suddenly blew up in my face, I realized how ignorant I was and became very, very thankful that God had placed it in my hands! God bless bro!

9 Stephen Macasil December 3, 2007 at 5:26 pm

It’s a great book. I’ll reveal a secret. We’re working on a companion guide for the book to serve as a small group study, or even a personal study. The workbook will have a study key, answer guide, and small group leader lesson plan. The companion, along with the book, audio CD’s, DVD lessons, and a computerized audio/video lesson on the chart at the end of chapter 8, will be offered together as a package to educate Christians on the biblical doctrine of the Atonement. Please pray for this project that is scheduled to be done in 2008.

You wrote: “everything I previously thought I knew suddenly blew up in my face, I realized how ignorant I was…”

Don’t you just love that?

Yes! More blogs, more comments, and more prayer that God will allow many to repent and come to a full knowledge of the truth (II Tim 2:25).

11 S.H. December 3, 2007 at 9:05 pm

May we remember that God is not accomplishing this reformation through one man. God is bringing up a new generation of leaders and allowing us and our children to be taught by the books that are being written and will be written by Dr. Bob.

I praise The Lord for the men who are not only watering, but planting seeds of truth! Let us keep our eyes on our Mighty God and not on men who teach us of Him.

1 Corinthians 3:4-9
For when one says, “I am of Paul,” and another, “I am of Apollos,” are you not mere men?
What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, even as the Lord gave opportunity to each one.
I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth.
So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth.
Now he who plants and he who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor.
For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.

12 Will December 3, 2007 at 10:14 pm

What’s a Molinist?

13 Stephen Macasil December 3, 2007 at 10:42 pm

Will, a Molinist is someone who believes in the heresy taught by Luis de Molina, a Jesuit doctrine created to destrot the Reformation.

http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/10437a.htm

It has crept in to evangelical circles and may be a view that is secretly held in your church, seminary, etc. Not here, we believe in the sovereignty of God, predestination, election, and grace baby, grace!

William Lane craig and Alvin Plantinga are probably two of the biggest proponents of the heresy.

In short, they teach that there is an infinite number of possible universes, god knows them all, your free will choices ultimately determine where you end up. Like our brother Omar said, it’s like a choose your own adventure book.

In shorter, it is best characterized as God’s prevolitional knowledge of all true counterfactuals of creaturely freedom. For example, if Will would have asked what a blowtorch was instead of what a Molinist was, would God know what Stephen’s answer would have been? It’s also called middle-knowledge. Just drive by Biola around noon, you can smell it.

14 darrin December 3, 2007 at 10:44 pm

Guys I am in. The gloves (and boots) are off.

15 Reformed Mama December 3, 2007 at 11:26 pm

Stephen…I am LOLing at your “Just drive by Biola around noon…” comment!

18 5pointbaptist December 4, 2007 at 10:10 am

What about a web cast? It was reported on the website a while agao. Is that still in the works?

19 Stephen Macasil December 4, 2007 at 10:25 am

Yes, still in the works. Had to be placed on the backburner due to several things: 3 brand new books (A Modern Day Apologist, Eastern Orthodoxy, Natural Theology), Morey’s health, budget issues…donations?

God willing, January ‘08!

20 OverCommiTad 2theWord December 4, 2007 at 11:22 am

Stephen, so you’re saying the aroma of Biola’s sacrifice is not acceptable and pleasing to the Lord?

21 Stephen Macasil December 4, 2007 at 12:40 pm

Not that which proceeds out of the Philosophy Department’s window, that stinketh (KJV)!

22 Willard Vance December 4, 2007 at 5:05 pm

“We could use a little help from you. When our enemies read our stuff and see that the post only has two comments, it looks weak. Another promotion for Morey – this time for his blog. First, it was his credential then his so called mentors.

Can you imagine, William Lane Craig or JP Moreland or whoever it is doing the same thing??? Demanding people to leave comments so that “people” will not view it as weak??!!

First, check the guys credentials – one retracted doctorate and another unaccredited doctorate.

23 Stephen December 4, 2007 at 5:23 pm

Willard,

Is promotion wrong?

When did he wrongly promote his credentials?

When did he wrongly promote his mentors?

Prove that imagining someone doing something has moral implications to what someone else has done.

Prove that Morey made a demand for comments.

Prove that Morey had two doctorates, one retracted, and the other unaccredited.

And while you’re at it, please tell us your opinion of Westminster Theological Seminary.

24 Willard Vance December 4, 2007 at 5:27 pm

How I came to know about this person.

It was first through the radio. The guys boast about his degrees and his brains. He put everyone (literally everyone) down by calling them idiots and stupid because they did not go to school or had not Ph.D like he has.

So, lets put the same principle back on him.

The Ph.D that he claims to have is from an unaccredited school called Louisiana Baptist University. All he did was submit a draft for his book. He took no classes or had any real mentors.

The other honorary doctorate which he claims to be in Islam has been retracted by the school. Faith Theological Seminary (of all places – Pakistan!) and not to be confused with the seminary that is in PA. Isn’t that shameful that the very school that grant you the degree was now retracted the degree back? Oh, did I mention that the school found out that the person who recommended Morey the degree was caught with financial discrepancies!

The only real doctorate he has is a ministerial doctorate. He claims that it is in apologetics but if you check out http://www.wts.edu there is no D.Min in Apologetics.

One of my personal focus in academia is in the realm of computational logic so I thought I would learn something (Christian perspective) from this person who claim to have taught logic in college. The tape series was the most terrible logic lecture I have ever heard! After further investigation the guy never taught a college class in logic. He may have in Sunday school but not college! That is a nasty low life lie just to promote his brains.

Why do so many Christians get dupped by Christian ministers so easily?

25 Willard Vance December 4, 2007 at 5:40 pm

Faith Theological Seminary disowns Morey’s degree,

http://www.pakistanchristianpost.com/search.php

Unaccredited LBU,

http://www.lbu.edu/macacademic.html

26 Stephen Macasil December 4, 2007 at 6:07 pm

That isn’t proof. And, you’re not the first person to use ad hominem against Morey. Many unbelievers like yourself that hate God and his high standards for perfection feel condemned when the light of the gospel exposes their evil deeds. Since they cannot deal with the arguments, they naturally attack the character of the person. Morey knows this, I know this, and that is why we pray for sinners like you to be granted repentance by the father like we were. Our faith in God includes his ability to draw straight lines with crooked sticks. While you’re fumbling through life, on your way to eternal hell, trying to straighten out your stick in order that your lines come out straighter, we’re over here as soldiers of Jesus Christ, consciously aware of our vile crookedness as useless sticks, held in the Perfect hand of Messiah Jesus, entirely at the mercy of His righteous and omnipotent hand to draw whatever the Father wills.

Have you ever been beaten really hard over the head with a crooked stick? Or was this your first time?

27 Drew Kerr December 4, 2007 at 7:05 pm

I was going to post on Hank Clinton’s speech at Saddleback last week, but the first draft was so brutal that I discarded it.

28 5pointbaptist December 4, 2007 at 9:06 pm

Hey Willard, when your done with your rant about degrees and such, maybe you could supply us with some exegetical refutations of Moreys theology. Degree or no degree, truth is truth, and until you can demonstrate theological error on his part all you are doing is blowin’ smoke up your own skirt.

29 Eric James Rogers December 4, 2007 at 9:40 pm

Hello 5pointbaptist-It is VERY tempting to cast pearls before swine. Willard will have the TRUTH made abundantly clear to him soon enough.

30 Josh in AK December 4, 2007 at 10:20 pm

I’ll post like a mad man Stephen.
Even if it’s just to bother Willy.

Will, I hope you understand that these kind of attacks are pretty much a waste of time, your talking to thinking people who would love to see a legitimate challenge come their way, not mamby pamby tiresome rhetoric.
I mean really, Ho Hum, have you got some thing to say here or what?
Do you think to impress us with , “One of my personal focus in academia is in the realm of computational logic” and try to make us think that your a brain man because of this? Do you have a degree in Logic? How do we know?
And do we care? Our God said the wisdom of a wise man is foolishness to God.
I had my drivers license revoked once,(many moons a ago), did that mean that I didn’t know how to drive? In fact the same state that gave me a drivers license did the revocation, cause they were mad at me.
So that must mean I don’t know how to drive. Or maybe they had other reasons?

Nice try Willard, but please try harder next time. I would like to at least get a chuckle out of it.
This was a yawn.

31 Josh in AK December 4, 2007 at 11:36 pm

Darrin,

Keep the boots on man, they are so much more effective with a swift kick. :)
Drew, bring the brutal on!

Webcast, I’m drooling over this!

Website, well, I have one, but does anyone here have any freight that needs to be hauled to the North Slope?

32 Stephen Macasil December 5, 2007 at 12:50 am

Keep the webcast in prayer, we’re close, real close.

33 Dr. Morey December 5, 2007 at 5:41 am

A man is judged by his works and by his consistent ministry. The fact remains that I earned a doctorate from WTS. This is sufficient for academia. Many well-known and respected professors at WTS and elsewhere have only an honorary degree. My degree was earned.

The Board of Faith Theological Seminary in Pakistan honored me with an honory D.D. in a wonderful ceremony with Dr. Carl MacIntyre in attendance at his church in Collingswood, NJ. The people who gave me the degree never withdrew it and stand by it 100%, as does the President of the NJ Faith Theological Seminary.

After several calls to Pakistani Christians, we found out that a group of men entered the Pakistani Seminary and forced out the Board and faculty at gun point and took over the school illegally. Those that stole the school did so with the permission of the Muslim government with only one goal in mind, to discredit me!

I am honored by the lengths to which Muslims have gone to try to discredit my D.D. But since the men and women who gave me the degree still stand behind it, who cares what a gang of thieves have to say?

They first claimed that the school never gave me a D.D. in a ceremony. But when I put up pictures of the ceremony on the internet, they changed their tactic and said that the ceremony did take place but the people who gave me the degree were not officials of the school.

When we pointed out the pictures of the official Board members who put the degree in my hand, the thieves then said that the ceremony was not valid.

When we pointed out that there were other men along with me who were honored with a D.D. and that they had not denied their degrees, they changed their tactic again. At each point, their lies were exposed.

As to LBU, it is accredited by various religious agencies. They have not sought government accreditation out of opposition to government control over what is taught. I submitted my thesis. It was judged as worthy of a Ph.D. The thesis sitting in their library states on the front copy that it was given for my studies in Islam. LBU is a fine school that has many well-known and respected alumni.

What can be learned from these attacks on me?

First, I am honored that the enemies of God cannot ignore me or my work. If they ignorned me, that would be a big insult. Second, they never attempt to refute my arguments per se or agree to debate me in public. They just attack me personally using the logical fallacy that if they can throw enough garbage on me, people will not listen to my arguments. I could have no degrees from any school and still be 100% true on what I say about Islam!

I fully expect when my refutaion of Natural theology comes out, that a massive smear campaign will be done against me personally. Why? They cannot refute my arguments! I will be honored as they do to me what they did to Jesus and the apostles. If the world hated him and called him all manner of names, then why should I expect better treatment?

34 darrin December 6, 2007 at 6:29 pm

I checked out one of Willy’s links and found the following headline:

“Eco-friendly kangaroo farts could help global warming: scientists.”

Not sure where to apply the irony on this one. Too many options.

35 Mario Herrera December 6, 2007 at 8:51 pm

Great post Stephen! I think these people suffer from some sort of inferiority complex! The gift God has given the good Doc is profound for bringing lofty, solid, theological doctrine to a level where Christians can grasp it and be impacted to the glory of God! It is clear that there is some sort of breakdown mentally with Willy. Ultimately, though he attacks Dr. Morey, his issue really is with the Word of God. May the Lord take his apprehension and grant him true humility and repentance!

36 darrin December 6, 2007 at 9:36 pm

This may be a coincidence but i found a similar article on a site that belongs to an apostate of the faith of Christ and a former attendee of Faith Community Church.

http://www.moriel.org/articles/notice_board/morey_degree_disowned.htm

Looks like either sour grapes or mental illness, but definately not a sincere disagreement in morals or doctrine.

Or maybe Willy is just the twin brother (alter ego) of the other person.

37 darrin December 6, 2007 at 10:03 pm

Sorry, Jacob, I mean Willy. I read something on your website too quickly that led me to believe you trampled the work of Christ under foot and returned to Judaism. That was too rash on my part and I am sorry Jacob, I mean Willy.

But this is definately and without a doubt a case of sour grapes and possibly mental illness, but not apostacy.

Just had to clear that up. Sorry all and Jacob, I mean Willy Vance.

38 Timmay December 15, 2007 at 1:33 pm

W.O.W the mini argument against you and Willard , well lets put it all together= some people are so jealous of Dr.Morey that they fire-back such ridiculous arguments. Such pity I tell you! Keep up the Great work Stephen. Knock those heathens down! :-)

39 Maurice January 1, 2008 at 11:37 am

I just clicked on the link to the Friends of Jacob P. website and searched “morey”. Looking at Jacob’s clarification that he does not believe in soul sleep, he seems to be describing a sleeping soul quite well. As I understand him, when you look at a dead person, they are sleeping, (waiting for the rapture, I suppose). But as the dead person is out of time, literally and physically, from the dead person’s viewpoint there is no time. I guess if you bend and twist two viewpoints enough you can have your cake and eat it two.

40 Tom June 28, 2008 at 9:50 pm

I have listened to 100’s of sermons of Dr. Morey and read 7 of his books. I think the man is a gift to the church for sure, and i will continue to siphon from his brain, but i tend to agree that sometimes he goes a little too far with the argumentum ad ridiculum and boasting in knowledge and i also see that this does rub off on people who love him, including me. I’m not blaming anyone for that, i’m just saying that we should learn to accept the legit critiques of us and try to talk to one another a little more respectfully. Now obviously i know when a person comes in here and thinks they know dirt on Morey, and yada yada, they need to be put in their place, but that can be done by laying the logical screws down, and leaving the “you’re on your way to hell” stuff out. The dude may just be beset with anger, or a confused Christian. Tell him to repent maybe. Anyway, i think you understand my point.
