This is an impacting picture of reality in third world countries. Examine this picture, the child is starving, he is weak, and near by are the vultures waiting for a feast as soon as death has subdued its victim. May we, by God’s grace, never allow to be found in this circumstance in our spiritual life. Apart from the grace of God and His power working in us, this would be our state. We are surrounded by demonic vultures on every side who lie in wait to cheat, steal, and destroy the child of God. Glory to God that because He is sovereign, we will endure hardship as a good soldier.
Spiritual Dryness is a very real circumstance Christians will face. What happens when joy is gone? What if enthusiam for Christ is fading? Exactly what is the Christian to do? We are to examine our present circumstance. There are many reasons for the child of God to find himself in Spiritual Dryness. First of all, the Christian is to realize he is in a state of Spiritual Dryness. Do not ignore it. Go to the Father in prayer, through the Lord Jesus Christ, by the power of the spirit, and tell Him your present circumstance. Dear fellow Christian soldier, we should understand that experiencing Spiritual Dryness is normal. You are not alone! As you examine your circumstances, repent of whatever controversy you may be having with God. Turn from whatever sin may be hindering you presently.
It would be a wise thing to have a medical checkup. Fatigue from whatever goes on in life could very well be contributing to the dryness. After every mountain top experience in the Christian life, we are bound to arrive at a valley. Personally, I have learned to be content in the valleys, knowing and understanding that God is sovereign. Even the lowest of valleys (worst of circumstances) are grace, amazing grace! All circumstances work for our good and His glory (Romans 8:28). Remember Job said, “shall we indeed accept good from God and shall we not accept evil? (Job 3:10) My fellow Christian soldier, when the winds of life reach hurricane strength, lean into them and remember, we have “an anchor safe and sure that will ever more endure!” Meditate on the words of this great hymn:
Though the angry surges roll
On my tempest driven soul,
I am peaceful, for I know,
Wildly though the winds may blow,
I’ve an anchor safe and sure,
That can evermore endure.
Mighty tides about me sweep,
Perils lurk within the deep,
Angry clouds o’ershade the sky,
And the tempest rises high;
Still I stand the tempest’s shock,
For my anchor grips the rock.
I can feel the anchor fast
As I meet each sudden blast,
And the cable, though unseen,
Bears the heavy strain between;
Through the storm I safely ride,
Till the turning of the tide.
Troubles almost ’whelm the soul;
Griefs like billows o’er me roll;
Tempters seek to lure astray;
Storms obscure the light of day:
But in Christ I can be bold,
I’ve an anchor that shall hold.

And it holds, my anchor holds:
Blow your wildest, then, O gale,
On my bark so small and frail;
By His grace I shall not fail,
For my anchor holds, my anchor holds.
