Biblical Christianity

Rick Being Rick

Earth to RW: You were being mocked!

If someone brings this clip up to you as a Christian and asks you to give a defense, don’t waste your time defending the indefensible. Instead, we need to give them the biblical gospel. We must not be ashamed of the gospel as RW is! He is so ashamed of the gospel of God that he has dumbed it down to slick phrases like “God enjoys watching you be you”. RW makes the assertion that a shortened and concise presentation means that someone understands something better. This short and concise presentation brings the notion that God will merely wink at sin. However, this clearly violates scripture (Habakkuk 1:13 says “Your eyes are too pure to approve evil, And You can not look on wickedness with favor”). The concept of RW’s loving God tosses aside other atributes of God such as justice, wrath and holiness. RW is merely repeating history like the liberal theologians at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. The liberal theologians of a century ago were continually striving to frame the gospel as a friendly dialogue that was relevant to helping people in their daily lives. They wanted to be peaceful with the world at all costs in order to get more people to fill their pews on Sunday. Charles Spurgeon was around back then and he stood against the liberal heresy of his day. A quote from Spurgeon is in order:

“We would like to agree with one who says that the bulk of our church-members love the old gospel; but we are not quite sure of it. If there were so general a soundness in the rank and file, would they quietly endure the abounding errors of the pulpits, and the babyish amusements with which congregations are being drenched? We fear the plague is among the people as well as among the priests. Yet, surely, there must be some who will fling aside the dastard love of peace, and speak out for our Lord, and for his truth. A craven spirit is upon many, and their tongues are paralyzed. Oh, for an outburst of true faith and holy zeal!” (Sword and Trowel, May 1889)

Oh, for an outburst of true faith and holy zeal, indeed! Let the people of God rise up and “speak out for our Lord, and for his truth.” Let us make sure that we are not ashamed of the gospel (Romans 1:16).

  1. I would have to say that Rick Warren is a gutless coward who peddles a Jesus that is an idol inside his ignorant mind. May God reveal Himself to him and remove Rick from the road he is on, for the sake of his and his hearers’ eternity!

“The hearing of the gospel involves the hearer in responsibility. It is a great privilege to hear the gospel. You may smile and think there is nothing very great in it. The damned in hell know…”-CHS

“If God does not save men by truth, He certainly will not save them by lies. And if the old gospel is not competent to work a revival, then we will do without the revival.”-CHS

    And my personal fav…

“Avoid a sugared gospel as you would shun a sugar of lead. Seek the gospel which rips up and tears and cuts and wounds and hacks and even kills, for that is the gospel that makes alive again. And when you have found it, give good heed to it. Let it enter into your inmost being. As the rain soaks into the ground, so pray the Lord to let His gospel soak into your soul.”-CHS

Come out, come out wherever you are R.C…we know you’ll have something to say!!

Given an opporunity to reach a big number of people with the truth, he says, “God enjoys watching you be you”? Given an opportunity to deal with “gay” sin he dodges the question, making Christianity look pathetic. How “hairdresser Jesus” of him. God help us get out the true gospel!!

  4. UTTERLY REPULSIVE! RW is greasing the oily slide to hell.

I particularly liked the part where he says that God wants us to practice certain things on earth so we wont be doofuses in Heaven.

While watching this interview all I could think about was how Dr. Bob would have handled the mocking. He would have dished it right back! The weak confused grandpa version of God that can do no more than gum you because he has no teeth is apparently the god that Rick believes in. I recommend Dr. Bob’s 8 lectures on the sovereignty of God that exposes this false grandpa view of god and exalts the only true God of scripture AMEN!

  7. In all fairness to Rick Warren, Stephen Colbert is a funny, rather likeable showboat who offers biting, yet entertaining, commentary of all sorts in a quick-witted fashion; He has immediate goodwill amongst the vast majority of his audience, myself included (though I am a far more casual member); The Colbert Report is a forum for the quick-witted, and as such is not conducive to arguing, unless you happen to be one of those people who prefer to memorize rejoinders over carefully crafting an answer to the present audience, which takes some time.

If you can play in this forum, you’ll amass goodwill and have a good time. But it will be just a matter of time before any shells of perception are broken, and the rejoinders are memorized by the majority.

Rick Warren should have never gone on the show; not because he can’t give good answers (I’m still undecided on that), but because it’s not his forum. It’s not *my* kind of forum, and I like the show. He should keep doing books or blogs so he can craft his answers more carefully.

  8. In all fairness to Rick, he better repent lest he end up in hell with most of his congregation!

  9. In all fairness to Rick, he should have listened to Mario’s lecture tonight at the apologetics class.

The source of this video says it all: ComedyCentral. I wish a biblical Christian would get on Colbert’s show and look him down and tell him about his coming wrath unless he repents. Don’t be mean, just be factual.

  11. agogley

He had several opportunities to give the gospel. Grace alone, faith alone, Christ alone. How much time and effort does that take?

  12. The Joking keeps the preacher off his own platform and on to colberts.
Im thinking that going on comedy shows is never going to come off as you would want. Rick is a proof of that.

The only way to make a good stand is to hijack the conversation, shut down colbert and take your best shot at bringing the law in.
If you dont, you will only be the butt of jokes and leave nothing more than anecdotes instead of scripture truth.
