Brian McLaren On Apologetics

A brief look into the apologetic method of the “new kind of Christianity.”

Notable post-everything Brian McLaren has something to say on just about everything.  After all, wouldn’t you if you were the structural founder and current leader of a new American cult?  The pathetic thing is the way that McLaren handles our Scriptures.  He thinks that by borrowing quotes from our religion’s sacred text, which we received from the true God Himself, that it will bring credibility to the cult that he and his cardboard cut-outs are so desperately trying to keep alive.    Before we get down to some serious business, let’s begin with a joke.

Why does the emergent-type consider eating cereal a form of cannibalism?  Because after reading McLaren’s book, those idiots consider themselves Post Raisin Bran!  OK, you can stop laughing now.  I thought we would start with two scoops of fun.

Here are some quotes from the audio lecture “The Emerging Church: Past, Present, and a Kairos Moment,” a talk that Brian McLaren gave to some crowd that was stupid enough to invite him.

“We need to upgrade our answer to match the new questions in the future. Under 1 Peter 3:15, we must do so with gentleness and respect.”

In America today, a particular progress is being made, at least in baby steps, to advance ideas that have never been, nor ever will be, compatible with authentic biblical Christianity.  A couple of these are gender identity and homosexual marriage.  As these abominable movements gain steam, one can envision a couple of decades from now where their cultural impact can be so dominant, that to go against the grain and speak out against it can lead to serious persecution.  We need to seriously count the cost here.  I fully embrace the possibility that I may be killed for my faith.  Not to glamorize martyrdom, but I would rather have my head sawed-off slowly than look some queer gay dude in the eye and tell him Jesus loves him and that he doesn’t need to repent from anything, not even rocking the van with Antonio!  But, what will these emerging sissies do?  McLaren suggests “upgrade our answer to match new questions in the future.”

What if the gender identity and homosexuality abominations become the norm, and one of them complains and asks why Jesus wasn’t a homo like him.  What do they do at that point?  Quote Hebrews 2:17-18?

“Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.  For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.”

“See, Jesus knows what you feel, and he loves you anyway…just-the-way-you-are.  He understands you and wants to heal your broken heart so that you can replace Antonio with a Brad of your own (pinch and wink)!” (and giggle)

This is not a straw-man, or straw-Pat, this is seriously the way that the emergent religion thinks.  That’s why many of their leaders are so effeminate; they’re going after the gays and lesbians.  It’s foolish to propose upgrading answers to match new questions in the future, while overlooking the command to sanctify Christ as Lord in your kardia, which means heart/mind in 1 Peter 3.  But the main point here should be that Brian McLaren is seeking to build an organism that adapts to its surroundings over time, always reacting to the cultural shifts while attempting to shorten the time between the cultural shift and the adaptation of the cult to the shift, so that maybe on the next shift, they’ll shift en sync

***[to be continued]***

I was given advice by a very wise man.  He recommended to me that rather than posting really long blogs, I should break them up in easy-to-read bite sizes.  It looks like 4 or 5 more posts on Brian McLaren can be squeezed out of this article.  May God be glorified and use our blog to prevent Christians from apostasy, to discern heresy, and to worship the true God in spirit and in truth! Soli Deo Gloria.

Bite-sizes are good. We are but sinful humans with itty bitty attention-spans!

It’s good to separate the emergent church out like that, call them a cult so people will stop thinking that synomynous with Christianity. When people think Christianity these days, they seem to either think of old southern baptists, and i mean deep south, or seeker and emergent. They make all these assorted assumptions about us that aren’t even remotely true.

This is off-topic, but has anyone (esp. Dr. Bob) heard about J.P. Moreland’s paper at the ETS? Thoughts?

Yes, I’m working on a response to it right now. This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. Thank God that He brought this topic to the forefront of Evangelicalism.

May the people of God be granted a renewed love for His word!
