New book on prayer by Mike J. Sarkissian

BGBookshotMike Sarkissian, a pastor at Sovereign Grace Community Church in Perris, CA, has written a new book on the biblical doctrine of prayer. It has been noted that every great revival in church history has been preceded by a renewed devotion to prayer. Mike’s book has arrived at a great time as it is evident that the Church at large is in great need of reformational revival.

Before God is endorsed by:

Dr. Cornelius Plantinga, President of Calvin Theological Seminary
Dr. Joel Beeke, President of Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary
Dr. Derek Thomas, professor of Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary
Dr. Ron Gleason, Senior Pastor Grace Presbyterian Church, Yorba Linda, CA.
Nathan Pitchford of Monergism Books
Pastor Ken Jones of Greater Union Baptist Church & White Horse Inn
Jerry Johnson of Apologetics Group & NiceneCouncil.com
Mark Spence of Way of the Master School of Biblical Evangelism
Dr. William Rudge Jr., Executive Assistant for Bill Rudge Ministries
Al Breems, Pastor, Oasis Community Church, Moreno Valley, CA
Emilio Ramos, Pastor, Sovereign Joy Community Church, Keller TX.
Pastor Ted Slattery, Valley Christian Church of the Brethren in Christ

And the Foreword was written by yours truly.
Foreword by Stephen Macasil

The book also has an optional study guide for small group leaders and/or personal study and devotion. And thankfully, the book has a comprehensive concordance and full Scripture Index (a great feature!). Thanks for posting this Stephen. I look forward to reading this book. It looks like it would be an edifying book to go through with my wife. There’s a lot of confusion out there about prayer and its great to see a book devoted to teaching believers what the Bible teaches about this important part of the Christian life.

I agree with Danny. I think it will be a great book to go through devotionally for me and with my wife! Bless the Lord for the labor. Mike, your labor is not in vain! You are a great encouragement to all of us brother!

Thank you, Mario. I appreciate the kind words. May the Lord grant us to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in our prayer lives.

I want to encourage everyone to read Mike’s new book, Before God | The Biblical Doctrine of Prayer. I finished this book in two days!! What and edifying and uplifting work. It was well organized, well documented, and written in such a way so as to not allow the reader to get lost in the ponderings of the author.

From the explanation and examination of prayer, the exegesis of the Lord’s prayer, the additional throughts on prayer, and then finally the examination and glimpse into the ministry and example of Robert Murray McCheyne. Amazing. I was so encouraged and challenged by this book.

I thought, as a believer, that I had a decent grasp on prayer, but I was wonderfully convicted that I had not. This will not be just a book that I just read and add to my libray but a reference book that I will go to time and time again to pull out the nugget’s that Mike has put together.

Lastly, the most important thing I received from this book is a needed conviction to make prayer an very serious and important aspect of my walk with the Lord. I am blown away by the Grace of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I am honored to be His. I, in awe, approach boldly His throne of grace. I look forward, by obedience and discipline, through the Spirit’s help to be strengthend in my prayer life!

Thanks Mike for your work!!

Everyone who has a desire to draw closer to the Lord in prayer should definitely read this book. Not only will you be blessed by a strengthened prayer life, but your overall knowledge of the biblical perspective of prayer in our lives as believers truly seeking sanctification and a closer walk with God will greatly increase.

I really didn’t have a clue to begin understanding prayer unitl I began reading Mike’s book on prayer. God has absoluteley led him in showing believer’s on how we need to see prayer and how to apply it in our lives. Prayer really isn’t the simple “here I am God let’s talk,” as most of see it to be. Especially when we as believer’s begin to undersatnd God’s grace. I agree with Stephan, Mario, and Jerred. This book can and should be used in study groups as a study guide, devotional, and plenty of knowledge to be gained in the biblical perspective of prayer in our lives. Man, I’m finding myself to pray more than often. I am very thankful for brother’s like Mike who put their gifts that God has given them to use. Very benifiting to the kingdom of God and to His glory. This book is a must read. Your prayer life will change significantly. Mine has and I am very thankful. Pastor Mike keep up the awesome work and continue to fight the good fight. My prayer’s are with you. God is good!!!

Mike has taken the subject of Biblical prayer to the next level. Breaking down the parts of prayer into easy to read segments. I was totally blessed when I read this book. Mike has a great theological mind.

I purchased this book as a gift to my loved ones in Christ… but I had to read it first. Tears of repentance and joy in His love for me is more than overwhelming. I needed a book to encourage my prayer life.. and through “Before God” my silent prayers have been answered. As Pastor Mike would say, “Soli Deo Gloria!”

My husband is reading “Before God” at the moment and has shared a few chapters with me. I look forward to reading it when he is finished. I won’t lie but I was already convicted and encouraged by what was shared with me. Prayer is something that truly should come from the heart and I should be on my knees and “Before God” at his throne throughout everyday. ‘Before God” is the perfect title for this book.

This book is easy to read & understand. It’s biblically backed and teaches how important prayer is for our lives and for the ones we pray for. It also breaks down the Lords Prayer word for word explains the full meaning of the prayer. I’ve read many books on prayer but this book explains that prayer is a form of praise, which I found extremely encouraging! This book is full of blessings and is a must have book for your library.

Thanks for the encouraging words! Praise the Lord that He is stirring up a passion in His people for prayer….
“And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” – Hebrews 10:24-25

To me “Before God: the Biblical Doctrine of Prayer” is a must read for anyone who is Called by God. Pastor Mike makes it easy, for someone like myself who is new to a lot of the terminology, to understand without having to have a dictionary right next to me or google at my fingertips for every other word. The footnotes explain a lot, and that is just the tip. This book is soo full of meat for the growing christian. My brothers and sisters as you well know apart from our Lord Jesus Christ we can do nothing, and our access to His throne is through prayer. This book has convicted me on more than one occasion for neglecting my prayer life.

Heya! In addition to all the things I am learning on prayer – I thought I would mention something that suprised me… this book includes, indeed it even begins with, a basically a primer on hermeneutics! Very very cool! I am loving this book! Yeah, it’s written by my pastor so you can reasonably say I am biased… but he is my pastor precisely because he is strictly Bible based – which is what you find in this book! Can’t recommend it enough!

As I have always had an interest in books that are rich in practical application, I naturally therefore found this book to be one of great significance. Mike Sarkissian not only does a excellent job in addressing common misconceptions related to the subject, but he also helps the reader come to a proper exegetical understanding through a use of language which is logical, yet comprehendable. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is in ernest search of sound information concerning the subject of prayer.
